Lip Filler Aftercare: 10 Essential Tips To Follow

Lip Filler Aftercare: Essential Tips

Lip fillers are an excellent way to give your lips a plumper, fuller, more kissable appearance. And as with all injectable procedures, the right aftercare plan is vital to ensuring you have a great experience, recover quickly, and enjoy optimal results.

Although there are various filler products and lip enhancement techniques available to help you reach your desired results, there are very specific things everyone should do and avoid after getting a lip augmentation.

As with any injectable procedure, it's vital to consult with your injector about procedure preparation and aftercare. But if you're considering lip fillers, we suggest you consider these minor adjustments to enhance your aftercare, and ultimately, your lip filler results.

1. Follow Your Injector’s Instructions for Lip Filler Aftercare

Before we get started and discuss lip augmentation aftercare, we should make one thing clear... This article stipulates general instructions and tips provided to us by specialist cosmetic injectors. To make sure you recover quickly and safely, you need to follow your own injector’s aftercare instructions to the “t”.

2. Avoid Intensive Exercise for 48 Hours

Strenuous physical activity increases the heart rate and blood flow. Increased blood flow to the treated area may in turn cause or increase swelling and bruising. It is therefore recommended to avoid strenuous exercise for 24 - 48 hours after your lip augmentation.

3. Be Mindful of Certain Medications

Although not an aftercare tip, but something to consider pre-procedure, this is a big one… For 24 to 48 hours prior to the scheduled treatment, avoid blood thinners such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and fish oil. These medications and supplements increase the chance of bleeding and bruising associated with lip augmentation.

4. Avoid Laser Treatments

It is important to avoid laser treatments for 2 weeks after your lip filler procedure. Lasers generate a lot of heat, and it can cause the filler to act in ways we don’t want them to.

5. Avoid Drinking Alcohol

We know, the tip we all seem to walk circles around… But an important one nonetheless. Alcohol expands blood vessels and increases the chances of swelling and bruising after lip filler injections. To minimize the chances of these side effects, it is highly recommended to not drink alcohol for at least 24 hours before and after your procedure.

6. Avoid Smooches

It’s important not to apply too much pressure to the treated area as pressure can cause the filler to move, leading to undesired results. Whether it might feel so in the moment (or not), kissing applies pressure to the lips, so we recommend avoid smooching for a day or two post-treatment.

7. Avoid High Temperatures

Activities that include steam rooms, saunas, or heated exercise classes must be avoided for 48 hours after treatment. High heat can increase the blood flow, which can in turn increase swelling, and ultimately also bruising.

8. Avoid Flying

Now this is a tip most often overlook, and it’s no fun arriving in Bora Bora with lips as big as your neck pillow… Your injector will likely recommend that you wait at least a week after your lip augmentation before flying. This is because the air pressure can also increase swelling and bruising.

9. Ice Your Lips (gently)

With all the “don’ts” post-filler, there are some “dos’” which can help speed up the healing process and get life back to normal as soon as possible. Icing the area is one of them. Some injectors recommend applying ice to your lips after your lip filler injections using an ice pack or an ice cube covered in a thin cloth (so it doesn’t stick to the lips). This will help ease swelling, itching, and bruising.

10. Invest in a Lip Augmentation Care Kit.

If you really want the best results, and just get with on with life immediately post-filler, this specialist lip kit has you covered. Designed to conceal, heal, and nourish your lips pre- and post-treatment, the ARMÉE Cosmetics Lip Augmentation Care Kit is ideal for procedure preparation and to aid with intensive hydration, bruising, and swelling thereafter. It also offers highly pigmented concealment options (including 4 shades of nourishing matte liquid lipstick) so that you can conquer your day, no matter what shape your lip augmentation journey takes.
